The national parks in Alberta are some of the best places to spot wildlife. We were lucky to spot 5 bears, many big horn sheep, mountain goat and elk during our short 4 day trip to the Canadian Rockies.
Bears
If you want to spot bears in wild but from the safety of your cars, take the Bow Valley Parkway route instead of the Highway. You will spot black bears, grizzly bears and if you lucky, you will spot the little cubs too.
Big Horn Sheep
You will come across many of these beautiful sheep along the Icefield Parkway. Keep your cameras ready and look for the large horns in the mountains.

Mountain Goats
Grizzly Bear
Apart from Bow Valley Parkway, Grizzlies are also seen on the Columbia Icefield Parkway and sometimes even on the Trans Canadian Highway. They sure bring traffic to a halt.
Elks
Elks are abundant in Banff National Park. You can find them while hiking on any of the trails in Banff National Park and also alongside the roads - Bow valley Parkway, Lake Minnewanka scenic route, Icefield Parkway, Vermillion Lakes scenic route.
Raven
And if you are lucky, the black raven will bring you news from the True North :-)
