If you want to see waterfalls, and lots of them, Columbia River Gorge is the place for you.
Within a stretch of 80 miles, there are about 90 waterfalls....big and small. During our visit to Portland in May 2016, we covered few of the waterfalls and listing our favorites here.
Multnomah Falls
One of the most famous waterfall in USA, Multnomah falls is worth visiting any time of the year. It is about 30-45 mins from Portland depending on which route you take. I would suggest taking the Columbia River Gorge scenic route. Definitely one of the most scenic routes I have traveled on.
You can walk upto Benson Bridge to get a closer look at the upper falls. Or hike all the way upto the top of the falls. It is an easy-moderate hike with about 11 switchbacks along the way.

Horsetail Falls
This 176 ft waterfall can be seen right from the road (Columbia RIver Gorge Scenic Route. There are few picnic spots with an amazing view of the falls.
Latourell Falls
Latourell Falls plunges 250 ft from the basalt cliffs. The sound of the waterfalls can be heard from the parking lot which is about a 1/4 mile walk.
Wakeena Falls
A short hike from parking lot will lead you to the falls. Surprisingly, there were hardly anyone around.
Bridalveil Falls
Hike to the falls is about a mile with a slight gain in elevation. But the trail is beautiful in spring and definitely worth hiking.
